For those who don't love social media, and who prefer to write longer answers and have time to think, we also created a survey with all our questions about human rights and everyday struggles. Are you one of those people? Go check out our survey: https://forms.gle/6kSjvK895aQX7MgB9

Are you interesting in reading the answers we got? Here they are….

SURVEY

STRUCTURE of the SURVEY

The Survey is organized in three parts:

  • Who are you? Introduce yourself: a section in which we ask questions about the age, profession and the country of origin of the people.

  • Human Rights and Daily Challenges: in which we ask questions about Human Rights and or daily challenges.

  • Do you want to know more? : in which we explain better our project and we allow people to leave an email to be contacted in the future

SECTION II:

Human Rights &
Daily Challenges

What is the biggest problem you see in your community,

in the place in which you live?

  • Provincialism

  • Lack of active social co-participation.

  • Close-minded people

  • Backward mentality: too much importance is given to old stories, political or religious ones. This prevents the community from moving forward with an objective mentality.

  • Racism

Have you ever felt deprived of your rights (in your daily life)? If so, when / how?

  • No.

  • Besides the period of the COVID lockdowns, never.

  • Not directly, but I’ve always felt at risk of losing my rights or of not being able to gain a living because of the backward mentality of the majority.

  • Due to the government restrictions caused by the current sanitary emergency, I feel that I’ve been deprived of my right to culture and, partially, of my right to studying.

What was the hardest thing you had to overcome in your life and how did you deal with it?

  • The university is among one of the hardest challenges I had to overcome, and I’m almost done with it thanks to my course-mates and friends which have always been there to help and encourage me.

  • Accepting that there are no lost causes.

  • Living in a small village, my choices have always been considered as being ‘against the grain’. It’s weird for me to still talk about these kinds of things in 2021, but unfortunately there is still the need to open the eyes of people and to realize that our point of view it’s not untouchable and it’s not the only one, indeed exists many different ways to see the world, different cultures, which united are an enrichment. My hardest challenged? Dating an African guy, for four years now. Even if at the beginning I was looked at as if I was an ‘alien’, we were slowly able to demonstrate that together we can go far. And the old Italian saying [wife and cows of your own country] doesn’t always work…Where there’s love, everything is possible.

  • [My biggest challenges are] trying not to give too much importance to others, being truly myself and living in a more relaxed way, but I haven’t been able to overcome these challenged yet.

  • The hardest thing I had to overcome in my life was a period of depression, which I was able to overcome thanks to the help of a psychologist.

  • The most difficult thing in my life was to live and feel the reality of the Syrian refugees, by telling me any story they made me feel it as it is and I always felt submerged with them.

Do you see progress made in protecting human rights in the world?

  • Of course. But not enough. I don’t know the world enough to know this.

  • Yes, but there is still a long way to go…otherwise we won’t still be talking about racism, homophobia and so on.

  • In general, yes, but lately the populist waves present also within the so-called ‘modernized West’ make me feel like we have done seven steps backwards instead of one forward.

  • Yes, I think that even though there is still a lot of work to do the world is moving in the right direction [regarding human rights].

  • In comparison with 20-30 years ago, yes there has been progress.

  • La vida ya es un progreso, a no me ha sucedido nada del estilo.

What is the biggest challenge you face in your daily life? What obstacles do you face in your daily life?

  • Do things that make ourselves and others happy.

  • Having goals.

  • Nothing that has to do with human rights, if I can I try to help the many foreign students who have many communication difficulties, since they don’t speak Italian.

  • Being accepted for who I am, and in particular not having to hide my real self to have a ‘normal’ life, like I’m supposed to.

  • My tendencies to procrastinate.

  • No tengo obstáculos diarios, pero a veces son con las personas racistas o solo por llevar un simple velo en la cabeza te miran de forma diferente y eso molesta muchísima, en mi caso me suele pasar muchas veces, pero a mis amigas les han pasado

What is freedom for you?
