About Us
RIghtsQuake: Stories from the World
We are a group of international students from the Master I-CONTACT (https://corsi.unibo.it/2cycle/InternationalCooperation), University of Bologna. We are deeply interested in Human Rights and in understanding the different perceptions that people from all over the world have about them.
Through the collaboration with the theatre company “ErosAntEros” and through interviews, written, visual arts and other forms of expression, we collected stories from all over the world from March to May 2021.

We investigated different points of view by posing questions to which everybody was free to answer. Some of them were widely open, others more direct. We explored people’s daily routines and shared their stories in our pages.

Our aim was to give voice to different groups of people, coming from different backgrounds, especially those whose perspectives are often unnoticed.
The goal is to give an insight on how Human Rights are perceived, highlighting differences but also common situations. We wanted to engage in an active discussion about Human Rights, in which everyone felt welcomed, and everyone was listened to.

MANIFESTO
​
Rightsquake is committed to collecting stories from the world and capturing how human rights intersects with the everyday lives of people. It seeks to create opportunities and give voice to different groups of people, coming from different backgrounds, including those whose perspectives are often unnoticed. We want to engage in an active discussion about Human Rights, in which everyone feels welcomed, and everyone is listened to. We advocate to investigate the definition and minimize human rights violations.

We believe that investigating the intersection point between people’s daily lives and human rights violations can be educational for all, both to bureaucratic institutions who design legislation and for the public who is often unheard and are conceptualizing how to continue this project in the future.

RightsQuake unbiasedly pays attention to the collected stories of people’s everyday lives to create awareness and provide education and a sense of security for every life we come across and beyond.

OUR ORIGINS
RightsQuake was formed from the master I-CONTACT of University of Bologna in 2021 through the collaboration of the course Professor Annalisa Furia which organized a workshop with the theatre company based in Ravenna, ErosAntEros made of Agata Tomsic [actress and dramaturg] and Davide Sacco [stage director and music designer].
During the workshop Davide Sacco and Agata Tomšic explained us their thought process on their last project, SCONCERTO PER I DIRITTI [Disconcert for Rights], which analyses and criticizes the European Charter of Fundamental Rights : indeed as they were researching the show they realized that many of the idealistic rights presented in the Charter are not respected in reality, so they tried to represent that inconsistency on stage.
After the workshop, they invited us to create and elaborate our own project: we collectively discussed ideas and decided we wanted to collect stories of people’s daily lives and their connection with human rights.
The idea was to make human rights, a generally academic discussion, a debate that is open to people from all walks of life.
